Q&A
Q: Why are people-powered insights core to CreditSights’ research?
A: We take immense pride in our team’s expertise and experience. Our teams have devoted their careers to specific sectors and disciplines, and it’s this depth of knowledge that makes our insights invaluable to clients. With over 16 years of experience on average across our team of more than 150 content creators, our team excels at spotting nuances in numbers and terms, interpreting management and market comments, and identifying trends across sectors. This experience allows us to determine what truly matters and moves markets, distinguishing relevant insights from the noise.
Q: Can you share your journey to becoming Co-Head at CreditSights and any key lessons learned along the way?
A: I’ve spent nearly 25 years across various roles in credit markets. At CreditSights, I’ve focused on enhancing our relevance to clients by understanding workflows and market dynamics. My path to Co-Head involved stepping up wherever needed, from covering tech credits and steering marketing to being responsible for our strategic plans. The key lessons? Embrace new opportunities, leverage your team, and always strive for excellence.
Q: How do you foster a collaborative and innovative culture within your team?
A: CreditSights still has that entrepreneurial spirit, with a strong desire to add value for our clients. Simple things like open floor plans encourage collaboration and idea sharing, daily morning standups to provide a look at the most impactful developments across our offerings and regular sessions to address problems and make work easier. The nature of the service we provide to clients relies on collaboration and trust – trust that we are experts, trust that information remains confidential, and trust that we have our clients’ best interests at the core.
Q: In what ways does CreditSights differentiate itself from other firms in the industry?
A: Our people are our differentiator, hands down. Not only is our knowledge and experience top-notch, but our approach to relationships also sets us apart. Our team genuinely wants to share their knowledge to help clients. We don’t always agree, but that diversity of opinion is what makes markets interesting. Our relationships enrich our research and give us a front-line view of market dynamics.
Q: What advice would you give to someone aspiring to build a career as a credit analyst?
A: Be curious! Ask questions and push yourself to understand complex situations.
Q: What are some of the most important qualities you look for when building your team?
A: Curiosity, proactiveness, collaboration, and being a good person. These markets aren’t always fun, but being part of a team that works together and has a sense of humor makes all the difference.
