First Brands’ unsecured creditors committee selected Cole Schotz and Brown Rudnick as legal counsel, according to a notice of appearance filed on the docket this morning (Oct. 17).
The US Trustee appointed the nine-member UCC last week.
The debtor has not yet filed formal retention applications for the firm. This is Brown Rudnick’s fourth mandate to counsel a UCC since Q4’24 in cases with at least $200mn in funded debt, according to Post Petition’s latest Bankruptcy Advisor Leaderboard. Cole Schotz secured the mandate for Claire’s Stores’ UCC in September.
First Brands is working with Weil Gotshal & Manges as legal counsel, Alvarez & Marsal as financial advisor, Lazard as investment banker, and Kroll Restructuring Agency as claims agent.
The aftermarket auto parts company collapsed into chapter 11 last month. The company reported that it cannot account for $2.3bn in funds attributable to certain factoring arrangements and other off-balance-sheet financing. The US Trustee and creditor Rainstone Capital have asked the court to appoint an examiner to investigate the situation.
